Literacy Resources for Adult Learners

“Literacy is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute, using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. Literacy involves a continuum of learning in enabling individuals to achieve his or her goals, develop his or her knowledge and potentials, and participate fully in the community and wider society."
Definition of literacy agreed during a June 2003 meeting organized by the UNESCO Institute for Education, the Basic Education Section of UNESCO and the UIS in Paris

  • Equipped For the Future (EFF): Guidelines, Profiles, Standards and Teaching Resources for adult learners focused on basic skills needed to perform entry-level jobs in a variety of industries.   
  • The EFF Worker Readiness Credential Profile provides employees and employers with a structured approach to achievement of desired skills and knowledge critical to success in today's workplace. Learners are certified upon successful completion of training and assessment.
